Jeon Jungkook (Korean: 전정국) is a five-time Grammy Award-nominated singer, songwriter, producer, and dancer. Jungkook is the main vocalist, center, lead dancer, and sub rapper of the biggest band in the world, BTS. Jungkook is known for having absolute pitch or (perfect pitch), a rare ability that approximately only one in ten thousand people have. He is the youngest member and the designated “Face of the Group”, due to his massive popularity. Jungkook is called the “Golden Maknae” or the (Golden youngest), since he is considered to be a musical prodigy and extremely multi-talented. The name was given to him in 2013 by RM, his fellow band member and the leader of BTS. In January 2023, Rolling Stone Magazine named Jungkook “One of the Greatest Singers of All Time”. In March 2023, Jungkook became an official Global Brand Ambassador for Calvin Klein. Often referred to as this century’s “Pop King” by the music industry, Jungkook’s record-breaking solo debut has earned him recognition as one of the biggest global superstars of all time. Jungkook is the most successful Asian solo artist in history, surpassing numerous records that were previously held by the world’s top artists and even his own group, BTS. In October 2023, Jungkook’s song, “Seven (ft. Latto)”, became the fastest song in Spotify’s history to reach 1 billion streams. In 2022, Jungkook officially started his work as a solo artist and announced that he is working on his first solo album. In February 2022, Jungkook released his first song as a solo artist: ‘Stay Alive’ (Produced by SUGA of BTS). The record-breaking song is from the original soundtrack for the webtoon ‘7 FATES: CHAKHO’. In June 2022, Jungkook collaborated with Charlie Puth for their hit song ‘Left and Right’. In November 2022, Jungkook released the hit song ‘Dreamers’ as the main theme song for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Jeon Jungkook was born on September 1, 1997 in Busan, South Korea. After auditioning for the television show “Superstar K” in 2011, Jungkook received offers from seven different entertainment companies. At the age of 13, he chose to join Big Hit Entertainment (now Big Hit Music) as a trainee. In 2013 at the age of 15, he made his official debut in BTS. Jungkook holds the most positions and two of the most important positions in the band: the Main Vocalist and Center. Since his debut in BTS, Jungkook has been highly praised by music industry professionals and all of his solo music has been met with critical acclaim.
In 2017, Jungkook graduated from the School of Performing Arts Seoul, (an arts high school). On March 3rd 2022, he graduated from Global Cyber University and received his degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment Education. Jungkook received the President’s Award, the University’s highest honor award.
Under BTS, Jungkook has released three solo songs: ‘Begin’, ‘Euphoria’, and ‘My Time’. ‘Euphoria’ is currently the most streamed solo song by a BTS member on Spotify. Jungkook also holds the record for the most streamed song by a Korean soloist in the history of Spotify, with ‘Left and Right’. Jungkook has released two of his original songs on the official SoundCloud for BTS: ‘Still With You’ and ‘My You’. He wrote and produced these songs for his fans. In 2022, BTS’s main vocalist Jungkook, became the youngest Korean artist with the most Grammy Award nominations in history. BTS was nominated for the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for three consecutive years. For the 2023 Grammys, BTS was nominated for three awards: “Best Pop/Duo Group Performance”, “Best Music Video”, and “Album of the Year”, as a featured artist on ‘Music of the Spheres’ by Coldplay.
In 2022, Jungkook made history by becoming the first and only K-Pop Solo Idol to be nominated in a major category at the MTV Video Music Awards. Jungkook was nominated for “Song of Summer” along with Charlie Puth, for their hit song ‘Left and Right’. Jungkook is also the first K-Pop Solo Idol in history to receive a nomination and win at the People’s Choice Awards. Jungkook won the “Collaboration of 2022” with Charlie Puth for ‘Left and Right’, and they were also nominated for the “Music Video of 2022”. In September 2022, Jungkook was chosen as the “Artist of the Summer” by Audacy (the second largest radio company in the U.S.). In November 2022, Jungkook received the “Eternal Artist Award” at the Melon Music Awards. In the same month, Jungkook made history by becoming the first and only Asian Act to ever perform at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony. Jungkook performed his hit song ‘Dreamers’ as the main act, at the world’s largest international event for approximately 5 billion viewers. Also in 2022, Jungkook became the longest charting K-Pop Solo Idol in history on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Jungkook achieved the biggest song debut in history for a K-Pop soloist on Spotify, with ‘Left and Right’. Jungkook was the most streamed K-Pop soloist of 2022 on Spotify (the world’s largest music platform).
Jungkook is known for his philanthropy and for being a positive influence on the world. The media has reported that Jungkook often donates privately to causes such as: disaster relief, animal welfare, environmental protection, human rights, education, and cultural heritage preservation. In April 2023, Seoul National University Children's Hospital announced that Jungkook donated 1 billion won ($758,000 USD) to support sick children. The hospital reported to the media that Jungkook’s donation would be used to support children from low-income families, who are suffering from cancer and other severe illnesses. In 2017, Jungkook was named a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF. BTS partnered with UNICEF for the Love Myself Campaign, aimed at ending violence towards children and teens around the world. BTS delivered a speech at the 73rd United Nations general assembly, and urged young people to find their voice. In 2018, Jungkook became the youngest person in history to be awarded the Order of Cultural Merit by the President of South Korea. In 2019, Jungkook was named a global ambassador to help combat climate change, when BTS partnered with Formula E. In 2020, BTS donated one million U.S. dollars to Black Lives Matter, and the BTS ARMY matched their donation in one day. In 2021, Jungkook was appointed as a Special Presidential Envoy for future generations and culture by the President of South Korea. Jungkook delivered an inspirational speech at the United Nations, along with his fellow BTS band members. BTS spoke about topics such as climate change, vaccines, and the hope for a better world. In 2022, Jungkook (with BTS) traveled to the White House to meet with the President of the United States to raise awareness and speak out against anti-Asian hate crimes.
